Is The Laughing King For You?
Our design Principles
The Laughing King has been conceived, designed, and curated specifically for the enjoyment of adult couples. Suzanne and I love to entertain, travel, and enjoy each others company as well as we love to be around other couples that are fellow life lovers and explorers. We love people of all races, creeds, colors, genders, and orientations. We believe in the golden rule and follow the kindergarten philosophy which puts forth that everything you need to know about being a good person you pretty much learned in Kindergarten. (Its nice to be nice). Everything at the retreat has been carefully designed to provide our guests with the ability to enjoy the farm in three very specific ways.
1.) Privacy and alone time. There are seven unique guest suites each configured to provide the utmost in comfort and privacy. Five of the suites are located in the main house. The house is most easily described as a southern plantation style farm house. The house has undergone a significant redesign and renovation and one of the main objectives of the design was to achieve five guest suites where none of the bedrooms shares a common wall. Each of the five suits in the main house has its own ensuite bathroom as well as its own mini fridge. We have equipped the suites with everything you would expect to find at a fine boutique hotel
2.) Community and socializing. Suzanne and I have traveled together extensively and after 30 plus years we have decided that the best way to get maximum enjoyment from the experience of a new place is to be able to share the experience with others. We have stayed alone deep in the woods, on mountains, in the wine country, and on boats and those are great experiences, but for us, we really love to have our privacy as well as being able to share the experience with others who are also experiencing it for the first time.
3.) The best of both worlds. We have tried very hard to give guests the best of both worlds. If you like the idea of being the guest of a retreat with wonderful amenities but you really like having your own private entrance, choose the Parramore Island Suite. If you like all the amenities but are fine with more of a boutique hotel experience where you come and go as you please but access your private room by walking down a hallway and turning your key, then book the Honeymoon, Cobb, Rogue, or Cedar Island Suites. If you like all the amenities and like the idea of floating in the pool with some new friends from Spain but really want your own cottage under your own roof, choose the Tiny House on the Chesapeake. If you like the idea of having access to the straw hat lending library the gourmet breakfast, cocktails by the pool with other cool couples but you want to retire to something funky and one of a kind, away from everyone, choose the Vintage Airstream on the Chesapeake.
If none of these sounds like something you might like then the Laughing King is probably NOT for you. No worries. We didn't design it for everyone.
